Pachinko

A period drama that, on the surface, seems flawless. Strong performances, confident direction, and some creative camera work. However, I started watching it to learn more about the relationships between Koreans and Japanese. Instead, I found it so intricately designed that only those two audiences would get it. I was left puzzled by the overly complex family saga. I dropped it after five episodes as there wasn't a single compelling character to keep me convinced that a breakthrough was coming. (06/05/2023)
