Despite her outward prettiness, on the inside, medical student Dana is a spinsterish wallflower with serious issues. When the object of her affections, an economics student, rejects her, she decides to show him that someone cares about her – she asks her classmate to marry her, and ends up stealing her best friend’s husband. With time, Dana acquires a taste for intrigue, bad-mouthing and manipulating people, managing to exploit their every ounce of weakness, cowardice, and even ordinary human decency. (Art Film Fest)

Sex, lies, and videotape is, my friends, an ideological diversion that dulls the individual! A stuffy terrarium, where in its timelessness, an insecure frog transforms into a determined python and strangles defenseless rats so it doesn’t get suffocated itself. A hybrid of Halina Pawlowská and Páral, relying on excess and conjuring bizarre images and magical tones. If Jan Kraus has even a little imagination, he's on his best behavior at home.

Today, after a really long time, I dusted off Time of the Servants and decided to keep my original rating. Although the film wasn’t perfect and a maximum of three stars would be an appropriate rating, I had to add a fourth one for the acting performances of Karel Roden and especially Ivana Chýlková. The way she portrayed the transformation from a mousy wallflower into an unscrupulous bitch was quite an experience.
