Just like the aspie Bart in conversations, Michael Cristofer's film avoids the viewer's gaze. It’s as if he doesn’t trust himself to deliver a thriller that can work with mystery, character psychology, and their development. With just a pointed hat and a cat on her shoulder, Helen Hunt would get clearance for takeoff.
