Lucky

O bate-papo de velhotes mais sobre nada do que sobre a vida. Os personagens são simpáticos, o cenário é recompensador para o público, mas ambos são pouco utilizados. E as coisas mais estúpidas aqui são ditas por Lynch — sem acrescentar dimensão ao filme, ligando-o aos temas da sua obra. Posso imaginar isto numa interpretação mais atmosférica, poética e significativa por, digamos, Jim Jarmusch. E é uma ótima ideia. (08/08/2018)

Lucky really hit me hard. It's incredible that Harry Dean Stanton got to end his remarkable career with such a beautiful film – many other acting legends can only dream of such a fitting farewell. The film is packed with symbolism, and if it resonates with you, it will stick in your mind for a long time, giving you plenty to ponder. Each character is intriguing and has a clear place and purpose in the story. Fans will also enjoy the cameo appearances by many film icons, with David Lynch standing out in his most substantial acting role. Lucky is rich in thought and emotion, making me laugh, cry, and completely captivate me. It's movies like this that remind me why I'm a film enthusiast. Thanks to everyone involved for this wonderful film, and especially to Harry Dean Stanton for his lifelong contribution to cinema – your legacy is unforgettable. (05/07/2018)

John Carroll Lynch surprised me in a great way. He directs his debut film with sensitivity and humour, creating an almost philosophic work that offers different possible interpretations. With so many symbolic scenes punctuating the storyline, each viewer will have their own understanding and find their holy grail. Lucky can be about old age, about life, about death, about missed opportunities – and, most probably, about all of that. Who knows. Lucky will get under your skin. It got me for sure. The great David Lynch in the secondary role moved me greatly. However the star is, of course, Harry Dean Stanton; this is his swan song and one of the best filmic farewells ever.
