Colette

It can be seen that Colette tends to be directed globally. For Czech viewers, the additional Czech dubbing feels like a punch in the eye. Nevertheless, I sometimes perceived inconsistencies in the script as well. Sometimes the movie didn't move forward and nothing happened. Sometimes the jump in the story was unnecessarily abrupt. However, in overall evaluation, it is definitely a movie that deserves attention. With Czech money, a drama set in concentration camps was made here at a decent level. Milan Ciesler is not any ultra-talent of the Czech directing world, but he handled the story with honor. (14/09/2023)

Colette isn't a bad film, but I prefer Cieslar's earlier encounters with WWII. Theoretically, I should be burning for anything with Lustig's signature, but unfortunately, his themes tend not to work with the film's overall context. Of the recent competitors, I appreciated In Silence more. (04/07/2016)

I was almost surprised that such a film was successfully made in a Czech co-production because it definitely has more than the typical Czech production. But I guess it's because there was also more money involved here. The acting is fine - as long as it's in the concentration camp; otherwise, it's boring. But even then, the film doesn't offer a new perspective; it's just another grim story where what you expect is what you get. Nothing extra. (06/10/2016)
