Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

That was really bad. It's been a long time since I've seen a movie that didn't have anything that interested me. The humour is completely off, the action is terrible (on the one hand, there's not enough of it and on the other hand, it sucks), Eddie Murphy is an actor who is long past his zenith so I found him annoying and unlikeable, I have no connection to the franchise so the nostalgia level didn't work for me, the story is weird and uninteresting, the only thing that's enjoyable are the cameos by famous actors, but that's about it. When I compare it to, for example, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, where the awesome R-rated action, the soundtrack, the actors and the humour work, this is very much a downgrade. Not for me. 3/10. Great comebacks create great expectations. And I, as a big fan of Eddie Murphy from the 80s and 90s, could not expect more. But what am I supposed to do now? Give it three stars with a simple feeling that it brought back nostalgia for me, which actually, true, it did. Or should I give it four stars with a feeling that Eddie Murphy, even after thirty years, managed to do something that action comedies have failed to do in the last ten to fifteen years? Because he managed to entertain, deliver lines, enjoy his iconic role as Axel Foley and the well-performed action fun, which may be too little in quantity and also quite predictable in terms of the script, but it still breathes a perfect 80s atmosphere. Well, I don't know about you, but I probably couldn't expect more from a debut director. Still, Eddie and his partners from previous installments grabbed everything for themselves. And they did it with grace, for which I thank them from the bottom of my heart. (06/07/2024)
