Num futuro próximo, os robôs foram relegados para tarefas e trabalhos braçais, mas estão proibidos de se parecerem exatamente com os humanos, por medo de nos substituírem. Charles é um mulherengo que usa secretamente uma réplica exata para namorar mulheres enquanto joga videojogos e... colhe os frutos. Um dia, conhece Elaine numa pista de gelo e fica apaixonado, usando o seu robô para a cortejar. Mal ele sabe que Elaine tem a sua própria réplica, que usa igualmente para cortejar homens ricos e colher os frutos. Para azar dos dois, os seus robôs conhecem-se, apaixonam-se e fogem para a fronteira mexicana para viver uma vida de liberdade. When I come across a movie tagged with Comedy/Romance/Sci-Fi with a rating just above the halfway mark, I typically don't set my expectations too high. And good thing I didn't in this case. Yet, surprisingly, I found myself rather enjoying it. While it was no masterpiece, it served as a relaxing watch. I won't claim it had me on the edge of my seat, but the creators did manage to coax more than a few smiles from me, putting me in a good mood. Not to mention that the Americans finally built a functional wall and the Mexicans found their promised land – so there was something in it for everyone, except for the occasional problem with power outage. Sure, it bordered on absurdity, but it kept me entertained without any preachy political correctness shoved in my face. So, after this somewhat unconventional ride, I settled on a four-star rating (albeit on the weaker side). / Lesson learned: Never use non-functioning wood when starting a fire. 4*-
