Set in turn-of-the-century Japan, the samurai cult classic LADY SNOWBLOOD stars Meiko Kaji as the avenging assassin Yuki, a young woman whose father is murdered and her mother raped and imprisoned by a sadistic gang of criminals. The prison-born Yuki is trained from birth to be a ruthless martial-arts killing machine bent on exacting revenge for her family's sufferings--which she does, with bloodthirsty gusto. inglês A beautifully structured film where you immediately realize from the beginning that it was a clear inspiration for Kill Bill. There are even the same scenes here, sometimes literally, just with the difference that in the American film, they aren't played by Japanese actors. Tarantino wasn't even the one who came up with fountains of blood; this film had already pioneered that. It was more than just inspiration. The story's pretty similar, too. But Kill Bill is more modern and more action-packed. Lady Snowblood maintains a very high standard and literally dazzles. Its age of over 40 years definitely doesn't show. I wish the manga that inspired the screenplay would be released here. ()
