inglês An incredibly pointless ghost story. The premise had potential, but it felt like it was thrown together by someone who didn’t really know what they were doing. The plot is a messy jumble, and aside from a few jump scares, you’re left wondering what’s even happening. Honestly, it was a struggle to make it to the end. ()

inglês No One Gets Out Alive, not even those who came out of the Midnight Mass. A horror film that is disgustingly underrated here and needs a bit of a revival and a phoenix boost. Santiago Menghini has shown he has talent and what seemed like an ordinary ghost movie (atmospheric in a few sequences, there are definitely some functional scares for some) gradually morphs into light exploitation crossed with monster horror. Yeah, that's not on my menu every day. The monster looks stunning, and the final twenty minutes are pleasantly gritty and intense, as if Pascal Laughier had come running to the rescue to remind us of his Ghostland. Small, likeable, unpretentious, nicely shot and I'll gladly throw a star up for the awesome finale. A slight resemblance to The Ritual and sacrifice as well, reminiscent of Aztec civilization. Story 3/5, Action 3/5, Humour 0/5, Violence 3/5, Fun 3/5 Music 3/5, Visuals 4/5, Atmosphere 3/5, Suspense 3/5, Emotion 1/5, Actors 3/5. 7/10. ()

inglês Either I'm resistant to fear (which I don't think so), or contemporary filmmakers are incapable of making an actual horror movie. The basis was good; there was a haunted house and an even scarier stone box, and… that’s it. The filmmakers were obviously trying to create an atmosphere full of tension, but they failed in this respect. I was quite bored by the film. The pair of hideous, murderous, white heterosexuals did fit the current trend, but I would have been more scared of Greta. And the monster? It was more funny than scary, but if I were a virgin, I'd probably stay one and steer clear of women. ()

inglês This British horror film, a Netflix co-production, is definitely not the flop that many reviewers here claim it to be. The technical aspects are of high quality, so you don’t have to worry about excessive cheapness. The acting could have been better; the lead actress did her part, but in a few scenes, it was clear that she was missing a bit to reach the peak of her performance. What the film cannot be denied is its overall sense of mystery and well-established chilling atmosphere. Unfortunately, the viewer doesn’t get answers to all questions throughout the film, which is a bit frustrating (perhaps a 20-minute longer runtime could have helped?), but the intense final twenty minutes make up for it. The slimy, head-chomping monster had its own charm; the creators had a lot of fun with the design in this aspect. So, don’t expect a groundbreaking cinematic event, but rather a solid genre entry. 6/10 ()
